The preview bar on the right shows gaps where no ping response was received. A screenshot of a text file showing the results of a ping every minute. This is the result, and you can already see some outages in the preview strip in the right-hand side in Visual Studio Code. I'm pulling out the second line of the output (the important one), prepending the current time, and appending it to the pingtest.txt file. In short, I'm running a single ping of maximum size against. * * * * * ping -c 1 -s 65507 | head -n 2 | tail -n 1 | perl -nli 'print scalar(localtime), ": ", $_' > /home/pi/pingtest.txt I could do a speed test more often (and I might if I'm not getting the details I expect), but I figured a ping every minute would be enough to at least see those additional drops.Īgain, a straight ping will give me plenty of details, but they're not terribly parseable if appended to a file.Ī bit of google-binging led me to this solution: # large ping every minute I mentioned, however, that the dropouts were only for a few minutes at a time, so there's a good chance I'll miss some if I'm only testing every 15min. The result (after running it for a while) is a nicely parseable csv file! A screenshot of a spreadsheet showing details from an Ookla speed test every 15min # run this every 15minĠ,15,30,45 * * * * /usr/local/bin/speedtest -csv > /home/pi/speedtest-track.csv One sticking point I encountered (thanks Vaughan Knight for helping diagnose) - you'll need the full path to both the CLI and the output file in your cron job. You can set this up with the crontab -e command. Now to set up a cron job to do it every 15 minutes. Then, to test it out, I ran a speedtest with the -csv argument, appending to that file: speedtest-cli -csv > speedtest-track.csv Thankfully, the CLI has a couple of arguments that will help populate a CSV, and you can use standard shell features to append to a file.įirst, I created a new CSV file with headers using the -csv-header argument and piping to a new file: speedtest-cli -csv-header > speedtest-track.csv but it's not very parsable if you want to keep track over a period of time. Once installed, if you run speedtest from your commandline, you get a nice result. On my Pi running Rasbian, I installed that fairly simply with easy_install: sudo easy_install speedtest-cli I wanted something pretty simple, so I just set up a couple of cron jobs on a Raspberry Pi - using the Ookla Speedtest CLI, and a standard ping.įirst, I needed the Speedtest CLI. Presumably in a couple of days I'll be able to hand the files to so they can hound about mini dropouts.- Damian Brady □ #BLM September 7, 2020 Thanks to and others, I now have a raspberry pi set up to do a speed test every 15min, and a ping every 1min. Instead, I implemented something in the middle - albeit a bit closer to the former. Suggestions ranged from just keeping a ping running on a laptop, to setting up an end-to-end tracing solution using half a dozen Azure resources and client applications. This suggestion was echoed by a number of friends and colleagues. They know NBN won't do anything without proof. They can track outages, but there's only so much they can see from their end. An "outage" is something longer, and it's really only outages that matter.Īfter a swathe of other troubleshooting attempts, one of the representatives at Aussie Broadband (and I want to be clear - I love Aussie) suggested I keep my own records. The trouble is, I'm told NBN (Australia's National Broadband Network) doesn't see them as serious enough to trigger a response. I think Aussie Broadband (my provider) calls them "flaps", and according to their app, I've had 150 of them in the last 8 days. Just enough to stop me in my tracks and force me onto a tethered mobile phone connection. Only a handful of times per day, and usually only for a few minutes at a time. In summary, I've been getting really short drop-outs semi-regularly. I need to prove it.- Damian Brady □ #BLM September 3, 2020 but apparently not enough visible ones that will do anything. Time to get out a Raspberry Pi and set up some stuff to continuously test my Internet.īecause I'm getting dropouts. Update: I wrote a little script to do a regular HTTP GET and ran the tests again over a weekend. Why yes, I am in Australia! Funny you ask! I later would regret this design - monsters stormed directly through it and slaughtered NPCs every time there was an event. Use the '?' Housing Query tool to click a space and determine if it meets the housing requirements. Also, if NPCs die, they will not necessarily move back into the same place when they respawn. If every house is full, you'd need an empty room to send one to in order to adjust where they live. You can move NPCs in and out using the housing interface, you cannot simply swap where they live though. A building in Terraria with the capacity to hold all 19 NPCs, with minor modifications Having lots of little cottages is doable, but it will take time! Not only in construction, but also in getting to vendors when you need them. Building individual houses for each NPC takes more materials than combining them into a home and takes up much more space in your world. For those who skipped this or wonder what works, I'm going to provide some clear and simple answers.īecause most people will build an apartment building, mansion or castle in which to house all their NPCs, it's worth noting we're really talking about individual room requirements here although the game refers to it as housing. Many new players will get a tutorial to build their first house, but may not realize other sizes work as well. I also had beta testers when I first started and before I launched my Etsy store and many of them said they prefer stores that they know will give them these GoodNotes stickers. 3/28/2024 0 Comments Daily visual schedule for kidsOf course, I could not anticipate every activity that you may need for your school day. If you homeschool, you might like these cards: read with mom, read with dad, write with mom, write with dad, copywork, homeschool classes, field trips, dance, gymnastics, music lessons, and sports lessons. I also have cards for all these school activities: morning work, morning meeting, math meeting, calendar time, phonics, spelling, read aloud, shared reading, guided reading, quiet reading, literacy centers, journal writing, writing workshop, writing, handwriting, math facts, math, math centers, library, social studies, history, science, recess, art, music, P.E., drama, computer, bathroom, assembly, dismissal, field trips, and special guests. In this pack, I’ve included analogue clocks and digital times for on the hour, half hour, and quarter hour, starting at 7:15am and ending at 4pm. I’ve found them to be especially helpful for pre-readers and kids with special needs. Visual schedules are great for all kinds of learners. I sure wish I had a visual schedule as cute as this one! One of the things that was required to have posted in the classroom when I was a teacher was the schedule. **The free download can be found AT THE END of this post. These visual schedule cards are free to download and print. I hope that this post is helpful and inspires you to create your own DIY visual daily planner for your kids.Looking for a visual school schedule for your classroom or even homeschool schedule? Here you go! For their chore charts, we use this chore chart printable from The Incremental Mama. I even used a little dry erase marker to add in some times so he would have an idea of when different tasks started, that way he’s not asking “is it time for lunch?” 100 times a day. Here’s how our schedules looked, with my 4 year old’s schedule being the first one you see. While ours are hanging on the refrigerator, a clipboard is also a great idea, especially one with storage to store the extra task cards that aren’t being used that day. I recommend using adhesive dots, or even “velcro” dots to attach your tasks. Once you have your schedule all laminated, you are ready to add your cards to your schedule and make your routine. It took me a while to cut out the cards but I just think that the durability you get from laminating it is so worth it. To create your laminated schedule, you’ll need a printer with ink, printer paper, and a laminator and laminating pouches. Plus, there are also blank cards to create your own options. I feel like everything is included here- from basic self-care tasks for kids to sports practices, pet care, and more. Then, I went through these activity cards carefully making sure there were plenty of options and duplicates of the ones needed, like brushing teeth, snack time, etc… The download comes with two schedule options- a single page that has morning, afternoon, and night, or separate schedule pages for morning/afternoon/night. This is perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and even my school age son loves it. I used glue dots to put ours together, but I’d highly recommend velcro, so that each day you can adjust the schedule as needed. To make this daily planner for your kids, just sign up for my email list to download the free printable, then you can print out the schedule pages, and the cards, laminate, and have your own daily schedule that will withstand some rough kiddos. It has pictures to accompany the tasks, so this works even for kids who aren’t reading age, yet. This visual daily planner for kids is such a great idea, and you can put it on the side of the refrigerator, or on a clipboard, so that your child can reference it whenever they need. I did this before, to an extent, but now that my youngest is almost 5, it is working so well to have them a schedule to look at. One thing that has saved my sanity more so than ever during this COVID “quarantine” with my kids being at home has been getting them into a routine and on a schedule. 3/28/2024 0 Comments Little sight word worksheetChildren need to read sight words IN CONTEXT. When teaching sight words, though, you don’t want to just teach them using flash cards. Frequently words that children read can contain up to 80% of sight word text! Because children have to read sight words so frequently, it is essential to make sure that children can read these words fluently (accurately and quickly). Sight words are (usually) words that are difficult to sound out. This is a sample page of our larger sight word packet that contains all of the dolch sight words. Today I have an “ Can” sight word worksheet download for you. Sight Words are especially important because they occur so frequently in the materials that little people read. STICKERS! Need I say more. When teaching a child to read, it is essential that you teach both sight words and phonics. It’s fun and cute and inexpensive and well. Then just post them on the refrigerator or their bedroom door where they can see them and practice them every day. Students can then add little features like legs and shoes and antennae, maybe some grass or flowers or whatever they want. Then they simply place the bug faces on a piece of paper and place letters from each word behind a bug face. Then choose 4-5 especially tricky words from their sight word lists (my kids call them Ball Words because that’s the sight word mastery system we use) and program stickers with the letters from those words. Students can program 4-5 stickers with cute little bug faces. What if I do something similar with sight words?’ It’s something parents can totally do at home. But you know what, I DO have those little colored stickers that you use for garage sales and I thought, ‘hey, most of my parents have circle stickers or you can get them for cheap at the Dollar Tree. Do you know how quiet kids are when they are working with stickers? It’s amazing.Īnyway, Katy has circle stickers in every conceivable color, but all my stickers are at school. It’s one of my kids’ favorites and mine too. Now if you know me at all you know, you know I LOVE stickers for fine motor work. Give Me All The StickersĪnyway, she recently demonstrated an activity using simple circle stickers on butcher paper to help with counting. she’s just really good, and I think you’ll love her. She’s not paying me or bribing me to shout her out. If you don’t follow her, do yourself a favor and go now and do it. She is adorable and so smart and full of ideas for fine motor and sensory and all the things that I love. One of my favorites is Katy, from PreK Wolf Pack. To that end, I follow some favorite preschool teachers on Instagram who allow me a peek back to my old days of teaching really little people and also help generate new ideas for teaching in kindergarten. I have admittedly had a hard time letting go of my preschool teaching roots, and I try desperately to keep learning as engaging as it is in a preschool classroom. As students get older, we somehow need to justify allowing students to work with their hands, be artistic and creative, and enjoy learning. The thing I love about preschool is that you can unapologetically get messy, be creative, and have fun. THE BEST IDEAS COME FROM PRESCHOOLĪt the beginning of my teaching career, I actually did a stint as a preschool teacher for about three years. So I thought I would share and idea that is super inexpensive and so easy. It’s not easy, and I know their parents struggle. I am still searching for engaging and meaningful ways to keep my students interested in practicing their sight words while at home. 3/28/2024 0 Comments Install java 11 on windowsYou have now successfully created the Java environmental variable on your Windows 11 device. And you can set the difficulty level so you get a race rather than just be left racing alone which can happen racing humans. But racing the AI gives you complete freedom to race whatever car you want on whatever track for however many laps you choose at the exact time you want, and you even have the option to pause the race if you are interrupted. I appreciate iRacing have tried to tackle the issues of pick-up racing while trying to keep the convenience of being able to race at a time convenient to the player. And then there were the occasional wreckers. In many races people dropped out of the race after a couple of laps when they realised they weren't going to win. I won my first on-line race because I was the only driver who could keep the car on the track for five laps. At its best it can be very good but pick-up racing often compares badly to racing the AI. My own experience of on-line racing is mixed. Indeed While this is a forum focused on on-line racing and so I'm sure your viewpoint is popular, 80 to 90% of sim-racers don't race on-line. I do hope however that AC (and dare I hope pCars?) will change that in the future, but I'm not holding my breath. But I'll be keeping the game this time, hoping it will improve with time.Īs far as iRacing goes, I love it, it's not quite rF2 in terms of physics and FFB but I think it's VERY good nonetheless, and moreso it's the complete package you get with iRacing which is appealing to me, no game is even close to it imo as of yet. Personally I won't race it much, not yet at least, there's too many other sims out there that offers good enough driving experience while not having the drawbacks of rF2. Most of the current sims out there look as good or in most cases better imo, Race07 series, rF1, iRacing, R3E, GSC2012, GT Legends, NetKar Pro are the ones I own and compare with.Īll that having been said I think rF2 excels in the driving feel, the physics and FFB are stellar! So if you can live with a cumbersome ugly halfbroken game you will have a great time while on track. The graphics is piss poor on most of the content I've tried, some cars and tracks look "ok", but I've yet to see anything that puts a smile on my face. The way they push content having you download each track, car and mod from their website and install them manually via their "mod manager", which could just have been scrapped and let us place the mods in folders like we used to do before, because it serves no purpose afaik (at least not yet). The ingame menus are poorly designed and cumbersome to use, even rF1 is better on this. The game is still very much unfinished even though the beta tag is gone. To counter some of the above comments, I have recently purchased rF2 for the second time, asked for a refund last time due to a extremely unfinished game and no progress over two months. I know that it's an everlasting issue and people discuss these games a lot, I am going through various forums an so on, but I'd like to know your personal opinion. I have to say I am a big fan of laser scanned tracks (which will probably be a problem in rFactor) so I don't really know what to expect. I am used to simply join Testing/Practice/Qualy/Race at iRacing webpage and be ready, but I quite like the idea of community developed game. rFactor 2 seems amazing at the moment (as well as Assetto Corsa and iRacing, I would say these three are the biggest opponents right now), but I have no experience with modding, league racing and so on. I am thinking about buying it, but since I know nothing about various simulators (I have only bought iRacing and won NetKar PRO), I would like to know what's your opinion on rFactor 2 (ideally in comparison to iRacing). The situation changed when rFactor 2 came. I had no desire to play rFactor since I need at least some graphics immersion in the game and the original rFactor was not really "pretty". I am relatively new to the world of SimRacing so I don't really know where is my place yet. I have been an iRacing driver for some time. I would like to get as much objective feedback as possible please. Please, don't argue which one is better, because you dislike the other one and so on. |
